Privacy policy

In short
Upword has no account, no ads, no tracking and no third-party SDKs. Your words and progress stay on your iPhone. The app sends anonymous usage events to our server so we can improve it, and Apple handles all payments. Upword is made by Igor Hnes.
1. Data that stays on your device
Your progress — which words you have seen, your answers, review dates, streak, the context you chose (chat, work or exam) and your settings — is stored only on your iPhone, in a container shared between the app and its widgets (an App Group). We have no copy of it.
Your iPhone may include app data in its own iCloud or computer backups, according to your iOS settings. Those backups are governed by Apple.
2. Anonymous usage events
To learn which parts of Upword help and where people get stuck, the app sends short events to our server at api.upword.igorhnes.com: the event name (for example "check_answered" or "paywall_shown"), the app version, the device language and region (locale), the time, and a random identifier the app creates when it is installed.
Events do not contain your name, email, Apple ID or contacts, and we do not store IP addresses. They are not used for advertising or tracking, are not combined with data from other companies, and are never sold or shared.
3. Purchases
Upword Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store (StoreKit). We never see your payment details or Apple ID.
Apple sends our server notifications about subscription events — the product, purchase, renewal and expiry dates, and Apple’s transaction identifiers. These notifications contain no personal data, and we use them only to understand how the subscription is doing.
4. Notifications
If you allow notifications, Upword schedules one local reminder at 19:00 on your iPhone, only on days you have not answered yet. It is created on the device; nothing is sent to a server. You can turn it off in the app’s Settings or in iOS Settings.
5. What we don’t do
No advertising, no cross-app tracking, no analytics or crash SDKs from other companies, no data brokers. Upword does not ask for your contacts, location, camera, microphone or photos.
6. Children
Upword is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
7. Keeping and deleting data
You can reset your progress in the app’s Settings. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your iPhone.
On the server we keep anonymous events only as long as they are useful for improving the app. Because they are not linked to you, we cannot look them up by name or email; if you want them removed, write to us and we will help you find and delete the events for your install.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app’s release notes.
